May 2017 | happy valley LAFAYETTE
edifice: breaking walls
This themed work is a special behind-the scene look at our first Art Moves Project.
Edifice: Breaking Walls conceived by Yukie, Christy and Lissa is brought to life by No Strings Attached Dance Company directed by Lissa Resnick in collaboration with Lafayette artist and Public Art Committee member, Marcia Barrow Taylor. This work asks: “What walls us in?” “What walls within us could be broken or deconstructed?”
Drawing inspiration from Marcia’s four multidimensional panels entitled Witness Cycle, intricately created through slow repetitive gestures and variations on the color black, Lissa uses a ballet-based contemporary ensemble to study walls between individuals and our own internal barriers.
Breaking Walls includes an audience interactive writing element, leaving behind a physical, literary footprint of the performance installation.
